This past October 14, 2019 marked our first five years of beginning the monastery here. So much to be thankful for, not the least of which is each of you! At this five-year point, we are amazed at how much has happened and yet, mindful that there is so much more to be done! With that in mind, here are the highlights of this past year:

  • In February, one of our novices, Brother James, was giving 24 hours to live! He was tonsured in the hospital as the Monk Porphyrios. The 24 hours has now extended to nine months. Glory to God for His Mercy to all of us.

  • Vineyard Update: The electric fence did a wonderful job of keeping the deer from eating the vine foliage. However, this last winter we received 45 inches of snow, followed by record rainfall. As a result, we were hit with black rot fungi. It didn’t destroy the vines, but it did the fruit. Next year we will spray early and often to avoid this scenario. We now have 1,500 rooted and...

This coming weekend is the 25th Conference of St. Moses the Black. Begun in Kansas City at St. Mary of Egypt Serbian Orthodox Church for the first nine years, it then went to different cities. It acquaints all interested with the foundations of the Christianity in Africa, it's significant contributions, the African American experience and why many are now interested in the ancient Orthodox Faith.

As a result, there will be no liturgy at the monastery this Sunday since Fr. Alexii and most from the monastery will be there. For more information, go to: http://mosestheblack.org/conferences/2019-conference/.

No liturgy at the Monastery this Sunday, August 25, as Fr. Alexii is filling in for Fr. Radomir. Liturgy at St George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lenexa, KS begins at 10:00 am.

One of the sisters of St. Xenia Sisterhood, Nun Mariamna, is now making custom-made baptismal robes to help support the monastery. Follow the brochure below to find out all about it and to order! Thank you.

Baptismal Robes

As many as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia

Grant unto me a robe of divine light, O Thou Who clothest Thyself with light as with garment; and bestow upon me Thy great mercy, O Christ our God, Who art plenteous in mercy.

~ Baptismal Troparion – Tone 8

Clothes in Robe of Righteousness

The St. Xenia Sisterhood is pleased to offer baptismal robes for adults and children. Our garment is simple, dignified tunic design, patterned after the Server’s sticharion. Made of white poly/cotton, it features a full, one-size-fits-most cut, with a round, collarless opening with a front center slit to mid-breast for quick and easy robing and disrobing. The head/neck opening is bound all around in red, and include...

We’re honored that you’ve visited the website for Holy Archangel Michael and All Angels Skete located in Weatherby, Missouri! Take your time to discover beauty, goodness, and truth. We believe that these trails ultimately will lead you to the most wonderful of human experiences: inner freedom!

Surrounded by the beauty of nature, the music of the trees, the songs of the birds, and the presence of our Creator in nature, our souls have a chance to catch their breath.

We are three communities serving God as one, Holy Archangel Michael and All Angels Skete (led by Hieromonk Alexii), St. Xenia Sisterhood (led by Abbess Brigid), and, our newest, Protection of the Virgin Mary (led by Abbess Sergia). The skete has two monks, three novices, and two monastic workers; and St. Xenia's has four nuns and one novice; and Protection currently has one nun.

Thanks to the mercies of our Kind Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ, the prayers and sacrificial gifts of many, the monastery property has a total of 80-acres, with 15-acres of farmable pasture, 65-acres of forest, trails, and ponds, and 7 well-built structures. Since closing on the property on October 14, 2014, our mortgage has gone from $387,000 to $230,039 (as of 7/4/18), thanks to the assistance of many with down payment and monthly donations.

At the monastery, we have:

  • Daily cycle of Church Services,  praying for benefactors and many in need

  • St. Gabriel Orthodox Cemetery on one acre of monastery land with eight buried here.

  • Pilgrims visiting each month (mostly from the Greater Kansas City area, but others from Des Moines, Omaha, Lincoln, St. Louis, Denver, Idaho, Alaska, and as far away as Eritrea, Ethiopia, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Russia).

  • Retreats from parish groups.

  • Prayer walks though the trails

  • Prayer ropes, and wooden prayer beads made from monastery trees (made by the sisters)

Additionally, with the help of volunteers and some contract labor, we have:

  • Added a new barn/shed, and a new greenhouse

  • Planted a two-acre vineyard, now it year 2. (1800 vines and 16 varieties are growing)

  • A thriving beehive that is producing honey!

  • 9 chickens and one rooster!

  • Discovered wonderful mushrooms, morel, oysters and others!

  • Currently we are finishing a new men's library, six new men's cells, and three new women's cells

  • Installed a new fence to protect the vineyard from deer, who enjoy our vines :)

So, "slowly, slowly" things are growing! For regular updates, see our our Featured Posts. We continue to look for those who would like to join us in prayer, farming, woodworking, herbal remedies, and to volunteer in helping to build the monastery! Our prayer is that by visiting this website, you can catch a glimpse of a new beginning. Perhaps what you will take away is simply to do your part “not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good” (St. Paul to the Romans 12:21). Peace to you and yours.

Thank you for your visit!
