Ben and the Cemetery Fence
In late March and early April of 2016, we prepared for the installation of a fence around Holy Archangel Gabriel Cemetery. Ben Sawchak, the son of Fr. Tim and Matushka Jennifer of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church (OCA) in Lenexa, KS, was inspired to put a fence around the cemetery for his Eagle Scout Project of the Boy Scouts of America.
It all came together on April 9, 2016. Ben coordinated the volunteers to come and install the fence. Throughout the Saturday morning Boy Scouts and volunteers pitched in to erect the fence. The synergy and love to complete the project were moving. Ben had been planning this for at least six months in advance. Pitching the idea to various Orthodox parishes in the region and recruiting friends, combined with learning the basics of coordinating a major project were all part of his earning his Boy Scout award a few months later! Congratulations to Ben and thanks to over 40 volunteers who made this a reality.
One day we saw a deer resting in this place of peace! Holy Archangel Gabriel, pray to God for us! And memory eternal to all those resting there++
